Our Facility:

Founded in 2001 as a sister school to Wee Lad & Lassie, with a focus on the very young learner, A Child's Garden is located in the heart of beautiful Severna Park. Our programs include a toddler program for children who are 18 months old, a 2-year-old program, and a 3-year-old program. We specialize in the care of children with food allergies. We are a peanut and tree nut free facility.

We offer morning preschool classes from 9 a.m. to noon and full day extended care from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. for working families. Varied attendance schedules are available with choices ranging from two half-days to five full days.

A Child's Garden is Maryland Department of Education (MSDE) accredited and has a 5 Check Maryland EXCELs rating. Check out the sidebar to learn more about our commitment to excellence and the value of selecting an accredited and rated program for your child.

Our Mission:

Our mission is to provide a stimulating, developmentally appropriate environmentthat enhances the child’s natural curiosity and desire to learn in an atmosphere ofloving care with individual attention to children’s needs and learning styles, respecting parents as partners in the learning community.

Our Philosophy:

We believe our school is a special place, unique in a child’s experience, and designed o provide the components of a quality early childhood educational program. Recognizing how crucial and important the early years of childhood are, we believe in inspiring children to reach their highest potential academically, socially, physically and artistically.

The components of our program are:

  • A stimulating environment, rich with opportunities for learning in Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, and the Arts, which enhances the child’s natural curiosity and desire to learn in an atmosphere of loving care.

  • Low adult-child ratios, which are associated with more extensive teacher-child interaction and the ability to individualize learning.  Small group size provides more opportunities for teachers to encourage exploration, problem-solving and promote language development.

  • The development of cognitive, social-emotional, and motor skills, which are related to early learning and later academic achievement.

  • Teachers who are degreed, teach using the principles of developmentally appropriate practice, and are committed to continued growth as professionals to improve the learning of all students.

  • Mutually beneficial relationships with families to develop the deep knowledge of individual children, so we can teach each child in the context in which he/she develops and learns.

Our Commitment to Excellence

In 2015, A Child's Garden became one of the only Early Childhood Programs in Anne Arundel County to be awarded the highest rating (check level 5) under the Maryland EXCELS program based upon nationally recognized quality standards and best practices.

In 2005, A Child’s Garden joined the very few independent preschool programs to be accredited by the Maryland Department of Education Early Childhood Accreditation Project.  This means our management, staff and curricula meet the highest standards in Maryland.
